What Lawn Care Costs per Square Foot in North Texas

Neighboring North Texas front lawns on one suburban street, the kind of clustered lots that change per-square-foot mowing math.

What does lawn care cost per square foot in North Texas?

If you divide a normal North Texas mow by the turf you actually have, you usually land around $0.005 to $0.012 per square foot per visit - half a cent to just over a penny. That is the effective rate Texas pricing guides back into from real per-visit bids, not a number most crews put on a yard sign.

National "per square foot" charts run higher. LawnStarter and operator guides often quote $0.01 to $0.06 per square foot. Treat that as a pricing method (especially on large or irregular lots), not as what a McKinney or Plano weekly mow actually bills. A $0.03 rate on a 6,000-square-foot lawn is $180. Nobody in Collin County pays that for a standard cut.

The useful version of the number is a sanity check: take the visit price, divide by measured turf, and see whether the bid is in the half-cent-to-penny band or whether you are paying for something else - overgrowth, bagging, a long drive, or a visit minimum.

Why a per-visit minimum exists

A 2,000-square-foot lawn does not cost one-fifth of a 10,000-square-foot lawn. LawnStarter's 2026 guide puts the typical minimum around $30, even under 5,000 square feet, because the crew still has to get there.

That minimum is almost entirely drive and setup:

  • Load the trailer at the shop or the last stop.
  • Drive to your street, park, and unload the mower, trimmer, and blower.
  • Edge, trim, and blow - work that does not scale linearly with turf.
  • Pack up and drive to the next scattered pin.

Those minutes are the same on a courtyard lot and a quarter-acre. Spread them across 10,000 square feet and the per-square-foot rate looks cheap. Load them onto 2,500 square feet and the same crew looks "expensive per foot." They are not gouging the small yard. They are refusing to lose money on the trip.

This is also why a lawn twice the size rarely costs twice as much. The variable part is the mowing minutes. The fixed part is the visit.

A North Texas worked example

Use public 2026 figures, not a BlockBundle promise.

LawnStarter's McKinney page reports an average mow of $55.85 on about 10,223 square feet. That is roughly $0.0055 per square foot - dead in the Texas effective band.

Measured turfIf the crew billed only the grassAfter a $40 visit minimum
2,500 sq ft2,500 × $0.006 = $15$40
5,000 sq ft5,000 × $0.006 = $30$40
10,000 sq ft10,000 × $0.006 = $60$60
15,000 sq ft15,000 × $0.006 = $90$90

The small lawn is not "overpriced grass." It is a trip charge wearing a mow's clothes. For city-level ranges that sit behind these numbers, see lawn mowing cost in McKinney.

How route density changes the number

The minimum exists because drive and setup are charged to one house. Put four more homes on the same street, and that fixed cost has five places to land.

Picture a crew that would spend 20 minutes getting to one McKinney cul-de-sac. If the next four stops are the next four driveways, the trailer stays open and the mowers stay off it. The 20-minute hop is no longer baked into each quote. The per-square-foot rate can fall even when the turf under the mower did not change.

That is the same economics as how much drive time costs a landscaping company, written from the homeowner side. Five homes on one street beat five homes scattered across a ZIP code. Every time.

Two honest limits:

  • Density lowers the shared visit cost. It does not shrink a 15,000-square-foot lawn.
  • We will not quote you a guaranteed per-square-foot discount before real routes run on your street. The savings are real when the map is dense. They are not a coupon we print in advance.

How BlockBundle uses square footage

Providers on BlockBundle set a per-square-foot rate and a route cost. We measure your lawn from the address - grass, not lot size - and combine those two inputs into an instant, property-specific price. You book that price for your own home. As more neighbors book, the route-cost piece can fall.

That is the opposite of guessing from a national chart or from a $60 list price. The measurement is the point. Get it at /quote, or start from the McKinney cost breakdown if you want local ranges first.

Lawn care is live across Collin County, so start on your own city's page: McKinney, Trinity Falls, Plano, Frisco, Allen, or Prosper. Every one of them measures your lawn the same way. The difference is which street's density you are joining.
